JOB DESCRIPTION FOR DIRECTOR
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director will function as the leader of Horizon Prison Initiative: A yearlong, multifaith program to help incarcerated people become aware of self, others, and the faith tradition at the center of their lives.
Major Functions/Duties:
- Oversee all programs and operations of HPI.
- Supervise staff and consultants
- Provide oversight for program at each institution
- Support on-site program directors in maintaining positive working relationships with facility administrators
- Accountable for adhering to all Ohio Department of Rehabilitation ad Corrections (ODRC) rules and procedures
- Ensure each staff member is trained in ODRC procedures
- Stay up-to-date with ODRC policy changes
- Participate in ODRC community education, as appropriate
- Collaborate, with other criminal justice professionals and programs
- Monitor implementation of the strategic plan in concert with appropriate board committees
- Represent the organization as its “public face” in telling the HPI Story to recruit volunteers and stimulate fundraising
- Supervise staff and consultants
- Collaborate with finance team/Treasurer to prepare Annual Budget
- Oversee grant applications and all funding opportunities
- Create a fundraising plan and work with the Administrator in applying for appropriate grants while also seeking new grant opportunities for program expansion
- Oversee and implement Fundraising Activities
- Cultivate and recruit new donors
- Ensure donors are thanked appropriately
- Recruit and actualize Development Committee/Team
- Maintain donor database
- Cultivate and recruit new donors
- Collaborate with board chair/executive committee in board development
- Oversee board recruitment, provide orientation and training to existing and new board members
- Review and archive board minutes
- Assist in implementing board decisions
- Perform and\or supervise administrative functions
- Maintain business office
- Liaise with payroll company
- Oversee grant applications and all funding opportunities
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, with experience in non-profit organizational management or 5 – 10 years’ experience with non-profit management; excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to think strategically; commitment to the needs of the incarcerated and their families, ability to build trust among community-based and criminal justice partners; knowledge of criminal justice system helpful
Ability to travel statewide; valid driver’s license
NOTE: Director is an independent contractor expected to work at least 32 hours per week; salary $40,000
